Mystic Seaport to Explore Influence of Beer in America at Talk and Tasting

Posted by Mystic Seaport on Sep 23 2009, 11:22 AM

Mystic Seaport will host its first-ever beer talk and tasting outdoors in the Museum’s shipyard Saturday, October 3, from 5 - 7 p.m.

During the event, Gregg Smith, author of Beer in America: The Early Years – 1587 - 1840, will share little-known facts including how beer’s history in America started as early as the Mayflower and how it was included in the paving of our nation’s first road in New York City. Named the 1997 Beer Writer of the Year by the North American Guild of Beer Writers, Smith will also sign copies of his book which will be available for purchase.

Following the presentation, attendees will sample brews from Kona Brewery (Longboard Lager, Fire Rock Pale Ale and Pipeline Porter), Redhook Brewery (Slim Chance Light Ale, ESB, Long Hammer IPA, Late Harvest Autumn Ale, Widmer Hefeweizen, Drifter Pale Ale and Drop Top Amber Ale) and the Shipyard Brewing Company (Mystic Seaport Pale Ale, Shipyard Export Ale and Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale). A light a la carte menu will also be available.

Tickets are $30 ($25 for members) and are on sale now at www.mysticseaport.org/tickets or by calling 860.572.5322. All attendees must be 21 years or older; identification is required. Price does not include admission to the Museum for those arriving before 5 p.m.

Sponsorship for the evening is provided by Shipyard Brewing Company.
